Job Description
Function:
Under the supervision of the Director of Operations and/or Physical Plant Manager, the Maintenance Staff is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the areas assigned to him/her. He or she removes hazards and dangerous conditions which could result in accidents and fire and prevents needless waste or careless use of supplies, equipment or other utilities. Duties and responsibilities will vary, depending on experience, but shall include some or all of the following:
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs physical plant maintenance duties, such as:
- replacing light bulbs
- powerwashing
- painting
- repairs
- light carpentry
- special projects.
- Performs grounds keeping duties, such as:
- grass cutting and raking
- raking leaves and other debris
- trimming hedges and trees as directed
- maintaining irrigation system
- watering grounds as needed
- mulching landscaping beds
- planting and maintenance of landscaping plants.
- Assumes specific housekeeping duties, such as:
- vacuuming
- sweeping
- dust-mopping
- damp mopping
- disinfecting
- cleaning of bathrooms, sinks, windows, and doors.
- Assists with serving lunch to students
- Assists in the ordering and delivery of supplies
- Sets up rooms for meetings and events, including moving furniture, rugs, and equipment
- Hauls trash and recyclable materials to designated disposal areas
- Assists in General Cleaning scheduled for the month between the end of the summer school session and the beginning of the regular school session (usually the last week of July through the third week of August). No vacations permitted during this time period.
- Assists organizations using school facilities (e.g. board of trustees, parents, etc,)
- Carries out related maintenance, grounds keeping, and housekeeping duties as required.
Other Assigned Duties
- Relieves the Physical Plant Manager as required.
- Performs unlocking and locking up of campus as necessary.
- Communicates with vendors to secure maintenance, supplies, and repair proposals. Monitors work performed by vendors. Submits invoices for payment to Business Office.
- Evaluates, prioritizes, and complete tasks requested via the School’s Work Order system.
- Arranges for logistical requirements for use of school facilities for parent functions and extra-curricular activities.
- Controls stock of supplies.
- Maintains Hazardous Materials Records as required by OSHA.
- Maintains Bloodborne Pathogens records as required by OSHA.
- Maintains asbestos abatement records as required by AHEARA
Qualifications (vary with duties):
- High school diploma or GED and/or previous experience involving plant maintenance.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 pounds.
- Ability to operate equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
- Ability to work in environments where there is dirt, dust, pollen, odors, sun, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperatures, noise, machinery vibrations, or pathogenic substances.
- Ability to use a personal computer for internet, email, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Able to work full-time, flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and special events.
