Aloha! We are a locally owned and operated General Contractor looking for dependable, experienced Carpenters for residential and commercial jobs on the island of Maui.

 

 

Job Title: Construction Carpenters

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Department: Castaway Construction & Restoration, LLC - Field

Reports To: Superintendents and Project Management

 

Job Summary

Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using

carpenter's hand tools and power tools.

 

Essential Duties

  • Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob and level.
  • Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
  • Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
  • Assemble and fasten materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, or power tools.
  • Erect scaffolding or ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  • Install horizontal and vertical studs to frames to attach wallboards.
  • Cutting tidy openings into boards for electrical outlets, vents, and fixtures.
  • Install framing and decorative trim for windows, doorways, and vents.
  • Supervise general construction workers, when required.
  • Assist supervisors with structural design, planning, layout, and installation.
  • Cleaning and preparing construction sites.
  • Loading and unloading materials and equipment.
  • Ensure tasks are completed to deadlines.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

 

Secondary Duties

  • Assist Superintendents and/or Project Management with the selection and purchase of lumber or other required materials.
  • Maintain records, document actions, and present written progress reports.
  • Assist Superintendent and/or Project Management with arranging subcontractors to deal with special areas, such as heating or electrical wiring work.
  • Attend meetings and workshops.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assist Superintendents/Foremen with leading and training laborers, apprentices, and new hires.

 

Education

This position requires some high school education and 2 years to 3 years of previous experience.

A high school diploma (or GED or high school equivalence certificate) is preferred.

Driver's license and a good driving record.

Reliable transportation to and from job sites.

Must be able to pass background check and work on Federal and State projects.
