Job Summary

Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Centers, Inc (KHAKO) is looking for a full-time Shelter Support Saff within our Operations Department. This position will require shift work as our operations department runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Shelter Support Staff will provide KHAKO participants with oversight of the center(s), enforcing rules, settling disputes, and overseeing the cleanliness of the property. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to maintain a firm but friendly control, be timely with documentation, have basic computer skills, and be a team player.

 

Summary of Essential Job Functions
  1. Provides general oversight of the Center to ensure security of the premises and safety of the residents.
  2. During an assigned shift, enforces rules, settles disputes, imposes penalties, and oversees and records daily chore performance.
  3. Oversees the general cleanliness of the property by performing independent checks (i.e. restrooms facilities are cleaned and stocked, lanai’s are kept uncluttered, trash picked up, etc.).
  4. Communicates general repair requests to the Operations Manager.
  5. Is thoroughly familiar with the rules and regulations of the facility and understands the vision and philosophy of the mission.
  6. Is trained in the use of First Aid and CPR and performs those skills as required.
  7. Performs fire evacuation drills and quarterly inspections on all apartments for damage and cleanliness. Cleans apartments after clients exit and do laundry as necessary.
  8. Prepares daily and weekly written records, incident reports and eviction notices as required.
  9. Occasionally may have to work at other site locations.
  10. Reads electrical meters monthly accurately, logs for billing purposes and delivers invoices to units.
Minimum Requirements
  1. Must have High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. 2 years’ experience in work involving human institutional services.
  3. Current Driver’s License.

  1. To read, write and comprehend the English language.
  2. Must be familiar with computers, Microsoft Word.
  3. To interact with clients from all walks of life and from all backgrounds, withholding judgment and treating all with fairness and respect.
  4. To effectively communicate, present information and respond adequately to questions from clients.
  5. To identify and define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  6. To interpret rules and procedures to clients having different levels of comprehension and competence.
  7. To maintain firm but friendly control over a number of residents with varying needs and backgrounds.
  8. To maintain routine records.
  9. To perform CPR and first aid.
  10. To understand and consistently enforce the rules, regulations, policies and objectives of the Resource Center.
