Job Description
We are actively seeking individuals who really want to make a positive difference in the lives of youth. The Hale Pono Teen Shelter provides a safe sanctuary for youth aged 12-17 who are in need of a safe place to reside for a short period of time (typically 30 days or less). During their stay, they need caring, supportive adults who can guide and encourage them as they do their daily activities. A Shelter Kia’i (the Hawaiian word for “Guardian” or “Caretaker”) provides empathic, compassionate listening along with clear guidance, and helps resolve conflicts in a way in which everyone gets their needs met..
If you are looking for something beyond just a paycheck, this is the job for you. Hale Pono is a truly amazing place to work. Since we are dedicated to being a safe place for youth, we create this by modeling and practicing healthy relationships ourselves, and are committed to bringing joy and light into our workplace. We need team players!
Previous experience in working with teenagers is preferred. However, we are open to hiring and training anyone, provided that they are willing to learn and practice a “power with” vs. a “power-over” way of being with youth. Must love kids!
